First Time Renting A Roll Off Dumpster? Follow These 2 Tips

If you are doing a home renovation project, a difficult aspect will be disposing of all your trash that you generate. You may be overwhelmed by what you need to throw away, and it is not practical to bag it all up and put it on the curb on garbage day. A roll off dumpster is a great solution for dealing with your trash. If you have never rented one before, these are 2 tips that you should follow.

Protect Your Driveway

A roll off dumpster is heavy, and if you are not careful with where it goes, it could cause some major damage to your driveway. The total weight of your dumpster and the trash in it could be excessive and end up cracking the driveway in the process. That's why it's important that you put some plywood sheets under the feet of the dumpster. It will help distribute the total weight of your dumpster across a larger surface, which protects your pavement from those metal feet that could dig into the surface. The same logic applies if it is placed on the grass, since the metal feet can put deep holes into the dirt without something to distribute the weight.

You'll want to get wood that's very thick for more protection. If you use thin wood, it's possible that the weight breaks through the board and digs into the pavement.

Lock The Dumpster When It's Not In Use

An issue that you may run into with a roll off dumpster is that other people will try to use it when you are not around. Thankfully, most come equipped with the ability to lock the dumpster and prevent others from dumping things into it. It may be inconvenient, but you do not want to be paying for others to dispose of their trash in your roll off dumpster.

If your roll off dumpster is too big to have a closing lid, you need to cover it with a tarp at the very least. That is because you will want to prevent water and snow from getting into the dumpster, which can take up plenty of space that you could be using for trash.

Managing the logistics of your trash removal is just as important as managing your home renovation. If you need help determining the right size roll off dumpster for your project, ask a local dumpster rental company for advice. They will be able to recommend an appropriate sized dumpster for your construction project needs.
