Four Quick Budget Kitchen Remodel Ideas For Selling

Depending on the age and condition of your kitchen, you might want to do some work before selling. Sometimes a substantial overhaul with a general contractor will be your only option. Other times, there can be a few cosmetic updates that will freshen up the look of your kitchen without too much work or cost. Here are four budget kitchen remodeling ideas you can incorporate before selling your home.

1. Cabinet Pulls and Drawer Knobs

A quick way to freshen up the look of your kitchen is with new drawer knobs and cabinet pulls. These don't need to be expensive and can be found at your local hardware store. Be sure to count how many knobs and pulls you need before hitting the store, and bring along a current piece from your kitchen to make sure you find a size that is easy to swap out. This update can quickly modernize an outdated kitchen.

2. New Appliances

While it might seem like new appliances would be expensive, these can be a huge selling point in a home. If you have an older fridge, oven, or dishwasher, these will date the look of your kitchen and lower the selling price. You don't need to blow your budget on appliances, but affordable, reliable models will make your kitchen look updated and clean.

3. Fresh Coat of Paint

It is amazing what paint can do to brighten up a space. If you have cabinets that are dated in color or are made from older wood, a few coats of white paint will brighten your kitchen and make them look new. Be sure to use paint designed for kitchens that can withstand heat and steam. Another painting trick can be to paint one wall in the kitchen a bright accent color to liven up the space.

4. Add a Backsplash

Backsplashes can immediately update a kitchen's look and are easy to install yourself. These can be bought now as self-adhesive squares or shapes that fit together on the wall for a seamless look. This will bring a little more style to an outdated kitchen and can easily be tackled as a weekend project.

Updating a kitchen to sell doesn't necessarily require an entire overhaul. It might be a good idea to meet with a contractor to make sure the basics in your kitchen are working when it comes to vents and plumbing. Otherwise, a few quick fixes will immediately give your kitchen a refreshed look before putting this on the market.
